[Dixielandjazz] I have lost the do (sic?!) of my clarinet . . . .

 Marek has noted that:

A festival in France wrote  twice
...  inviting candidates for June concerts...

I'd like to play clarinet in France in May  --
indeed I'd like to perform in old Marseille, and tomorrow wouldn't be too soon,
except of course to my regret

I cannot as yet play clarinet
except in that avanter than avant garde style
beginners lose after the first painful while
which gets folk shouting "put it away!"

I could make noises, between squeaks of reedin the valid cause of dispersing any crowd;by if not exactly playing being loudmanage to satisfy a burning present need?
I could take lessons. The major thing is timing, better wait and learn -- which could take me years!I'd hope it could be safe for fit volunteers
long before that!  Here endeth this rhyming!

Are you applying?  It will probably be cancelled like the Eurovision.

Hi all,
here in France, all public performances are cancelled whatever they are.
It's a big (financial) problem for all musicians ... but not only for the
musicians !!!
Best regards.
Jean-Marc

As you all probably know for the international news, everyone in Spain is
confined to their homes, although a few can go to work for necessary jobs.
That means, of course, that all clubs, theaters, etc., have shut down.  The
organization that collects & sends us our royalties for recordings & tv
shows has contacted us all saying they are going to ask for gov't
compensation, but I would think a musician's request will be way down the
line of groups/businesses requesting the same.

As Jean Marc said..not good!  Most of our band is ok moneywise, I believe,
but there is one I am concerned about.  Am keeping in touch with them all
through our band Whatsapp group.  We also have a "Fan Whatsapp group", and I
am sending photos & videos to them hoping to keep spirits up.  Every night
at 8pm everyone goes to their windows/balconies/gardens to clap for the
efforts of all the health workers.  Useless, in reality, but very inspiring
nevertheless.

How to keep busy if isolated?  It was very warm last week, so I did a lot of
gardening.  This week is rainy & colder, so working on some live recordings
of our band in my studio..selecting tunes we've not had on previous
recordings & mastering the recordings.  I'm fortunate to have a garden in
Madrid (mostly apartment dwellers here!), and very, very fortunate to have a
purpose built studio in my home!  Still, performing is what I enjoy, and
certainly miss the interaction with the guys in the band, and with the
audience.

The worst part is not knowing how long this will be going on.  My son, who
is a microbiologist in Seattle, says the anti-malaria drug announced
yesterday may help control the virus in people that are sick, which is great
news if true.

Keep well, everyone, and I would suggest isolation for safety, even if your
gov't has not gotten around to demanding it.  They will, and you'll be ahead
of the game!

Jim

We all are in the same boat, Jim.
In Israel it's very much the same, except that so far covid19 has not
claimed any lives here.  The numbers of people infected has climbed to over
700.  We have been asked to stay home and go out only to purchase food and
medicines.  As of today, the Police is starting to enforce  the curfew.
Oh, we're still allowed to go for a short walk close to home, provided we
do not come in close contact with others.  Meetings of up to five people
are allowed, but we must keep a 2 metre (about 7 feet) distance from each
other.  Parks have been closed.
Luckily, here it started before the disease was wide spread, which probably
is why we have so far had no casualties.
So all that's left to us is listening to records and pretend it's live!
Cheers
