My first reaction was that you were referring to the February 1942 Bob Crosby Decca rendition with the opening patter between Nappy Lamare and Eddie Miller.

Australians were introduced to it in the mid 1940s and knew the words by heart.
However, it was not until 1975 that Jess and I finally tasted a NOLA po’ boy sandwich.
And we were certainly not disappointed.
I did not discover the rarely-sung verse of the song until later in the 1950s.
