Our good friend and peripatetic drummer Hal Smith now residing in Arkansas
writes.

For those few who don't know Hal-he's lived in San Diego where he was active
with the America's Finest Dixieland Jazz Society. He's also worked in San
Antonio with the Jim Cullum band. He's spent time in residence in New
Orleans and environs and continues to appear on any jazz recordings. Hal
will appear in Pensacola in November as part of a New Orleans group led by
trombonist David Sager, who also happens to be curator of Library of
Congress' Jukebox Project. ( See www.jazzpensacola.com if you want further
details.)

Hal writes own tribute to Horace Harris.

I had the pleasure of making Horace Harris' acquaintance at the San Diego
Thanksgiving Dixieland Jazz Festival in the 1990s. He was a very
sophisticated man, but possessed a wonderful sense of humor and exquisite
good taste in music.

Later, Horace wrote several delightful articles about British Jazz musicians
for AFCDJS' JAZZ RAMBLER. His contributions were always welcome -- not only
for his outstanding writing, but also for the information he shared
regarding U.K. musicians who were not as well known to us as their American
counterparts.

I will miss Horace Harris. He was a terrific individual and a good friend.

Hal Smith
