Likely this will be a duplicate on DJML, but I pass along anyway.
Horace was a charming British citizen who started collecting jazz records before WWII.
He had written for a number of jazz journals and was a good e-mail correspondent. I was always edified when I read his writings. We exchanged a few personal e-mails and although we'd never met in person, I considered him a good friend, as he was to many.
He'll be missed. Likely there will be tributes to follow. I'll be selective in the ones I sent out.
Thanks to the several people who wrote comments about Bob Dylan's having received the Nobel Prize for literature. There were a few positive comments but the preponderance of responses were either quizzical or negative. Give me time to collate. Then you can read,or not. I'm reminded of the story about the tomcat making love to the lady skunk. He is reported to have said, "Thank you m'am, I think I've had about all the pleasure I can stand!"

Subject: The sad passing of Horace Harris
Dear all,
We are sorry to have to inform you that our father, Horace Harris,
passed away on Saturday 15th October 2016. His last moments were spent
peacefully, surrounded by his close family.
Apologies for the impersonal nature of this email however we have
realised there are many of you we don’t know personally, and didn’t want
to leave anyone out.
For those of you who knew his wife Edwina, she will continue to live at
their home of 40 years.
We will continue checking this email account for any correspondence in
the next few weeks, after which it will likely be closed down.
With kind regards,
Jamie and Manda Harris
