You are correct, which proves I should not try to pay attention to two 
things at once.

I should have written that a Gm7 chord is G-Bb-D-F, which is the same as a 
Bb6 chord.

But the principal that the name you give a chord can be affected by its 
position in a tune or who is to play it remains valid.

Phil,
The chord you have spelled out (G-Bb-Db-E) is not a Gm6 but a G
diminished. Which is the same as an E dim.
A Gm6 has the same notes as an Em7b5 (aka E half-diminished,)
