Well, if you REEEEALLY want to get technical about it, the sound of G-Bb-Db-E is "Gdim7". 
"Gdim" would be a triad of G-Bb-Db. 
However, in the strictest sense, Gdim7 is G-Bb-Db-Fb, all minor third intervals.

But the principal that the name you give a chord can be affected by its position in a tune or who is to play it remains valid.

The chord you have spelled out (G-Bb-Db-E) is not a Gm6 but a G
diminished. Which is the same as an E dim.
A Gm6 has the same notes as an Em7b5 (aka E half-diminished,)
