[Dixielandjazz] Clarinet reeds

I’m jogging my memory about my late brother Don’s teen years (1940s) when he was obsessed—literally-- with finding reeds that gave the EXACT tone he was striving for. He went through boxes and boxes of Rico reeds, which are still around. But I have it stuck in my mind that he also sent for “T. J. Mercado” reeds. Is that a familiar name to any of you? I may be wrong-- T. J. Mercado might be the name of a dog catcher from my youth, or a a discontinued brand of soup. Help!
