References to the year 2000 should of course be met with the theory of the late Henry Allen that somebody stole Gabriel's horn.

Of course some years ago a German non-mainstream author did write a book attempting to convince people that sometime between  600 AD and the beginning of the tenth century didn't exist,  though I don't recall him arguing that the Millennium is still more than two centuries in the future ...  As for Captain Haesler, whom God preserve, of Sydney NSW,  there is an observation by Ezra Pound to the effect that people back then tended to suppose Purgatory Hill was where people now believe Ayer's Rock to be.

Some people who believed the world would end in the seventeenth century even went so far as to protest at what was being called a reform of the Calendar,  and insisted that it was an ecclesiastical plot to confuse Gabriel so that he would miss his entry,

Time, time!  As Milt Hinton observed, if you don't know when to apply your fingers it's comparatively irrelevant where you put them.

amen,
Robert
