[Dixielandjazz] Watch the first set

Not to resurrect the old debate about Burns’ (mostly fine)  jazz history program, but from respect for Woody Herman…His pioneering big bands were IMO sadly underrepresented on the series. Think of the number of fantastic sidemen he brought to the fore, the brilliant arrangements, the drive, the invention, the humor. I’m a huge Artie Shaw fan but it seems to me that Burns gave superior space to Shaw and Brubeck in part because they (a) were lucky enough to be (a) alive and highly articulate when he was developing the series.
