Woody was being, polite, of course. Over the years he cited Barney Bigard and Jimmy Noone as his favourites. By the time of this very good programme his dementia had begun to set in and was affecting his playing. I'm not sure whether or not it had been discovered that his business manager Abe Turchen had gambled away all of Woody's money and failed to pay off the tax that he owed. The IRS subsequently pursued Woody rigorously and made him sell the home he'd had since the '40s.
