Or perhaps a newbie stumbles on a "dixieland" (I hate that term) group, thinks it sounds like something his great grandfather might listen to, hates it, and ignores all jazz.  There are all kinds of scenarios involving why people might grow to hate jazz.  Most of them involve smooth jazz players like Kenny G.
