Perhaps. But he was in the Goldkette band when it beat Henderson's, and
Lester Young always carried "Singing the Blues" for Tram's solo thereon.
Bix was not the only oyster in the Trumbaure Orchestra stew, albeir the
best. Improviser or not, he was not a slouch! And the 1937/38 band sounds
very good.
As to the Capitols, they area hardly the best of the bunch.
He was better as an aircraft pilot.
I wouldn't know.
