Tonight, some friends an I went to hear the Isradixie at the Shablul
(snail) in Tel-Aviv. What a band! Well, it IS the most professional band
in the country. Most members, if not all, are professional musicians, and
if they have day jobs, it's teachng music.
The band started with two New Orleans numbers, Down by the Riverside and
Bourbon St. Parade without a break instrumental. But only afterwards it
got really started! Since the singer Paul Moore was away (at an Italian
jazz festial), Jacques Sany too over the vocal duties, singing in French.
The two octogenerian reed layers (the other one is merton Cahm) are
s-o-o-o-o good!
Felder always comes up with new arrangements. "Someday You'll Be Sorry,"
although, as always, preceded by "jazz was not born in New York, it was
born in Odessa" (the birth place of Sophie Tucker), was played half klezmer!
In short - a wonderful show, played to a full house (and stop thinking of
pokers, you gamblers!).
Cheers
