The Smoking Time Jazz Club regularly play on Frenchman Street - saw them on
an earlier trip, and love their vintage "traditional" sound while playing
songs not often heard. Bought their CD Stampede on a recent trip, and for
some reason it reminds me of the classic 20's movie backgrounds. They are
very popular and have dancers with them all the time. Absolutely OKOM!

The jazz at several of the listed clubs, especially on Frenchmen Street ARE
IN FACT OKOM - groups like Tuba Skinny and others play very authentic,
acoustic, energetic traditional jazz and the audience is filled with dancers
and listeners of all ages.
Search Youtube for Tuba Skinny, Meschiya Lake <http://www.meschiyalake.com/>
, Tom McDermott - you will be surprised.

Some of the other locations have a mixture of musical styles (as is common
in NOLA) and others are loud rock - but it becomes obvious when you approach
those clubs.
