Marek and Listers;

Have you noticed that modern CDs (last 10 years) tend to be more reliable? If so, do you think that it’s because companies have improved their manufacturing techniques and materials of both the physical CDs as well as the CD burners?

I had a Diplomats of Jazz CD, which I got from Jim Petrie. After a short time. it simply stopped playing.

Stan mentions CDs made in France. Some friends and I went to the Gold Washboard festival in Poland in 2003. We were very excited about the Olivier Franc group, and some of us bought its CD. After a while, it began sounding like a very scratched LP!

Cheers

The takeaway from this report is that some of the early CDs were poorly manufactured and didn't last long. Modern manufacturing techniques estimate that a CD could last several centuries. My own experience is that all of my early CDs from the '80s are still in my collection and still playable. Several CDs which were produced at home have failed as well as some made in France.

What are the CD experiences of others on the list?
