[Dixielandjazz] Tears

Gee, Bob,
Do you expect musicians to give a pastiche of King Oliver, or play
their own thing? I opt for the latter! If I have to hear copycats,
I'd much rather dig up my old (12 inch, though) Lps and listen to THE
KING himself (played his Gennets last week - thesound not half as good
as the Okeh's). I want musicians to play their own music. Perhaps I
am naive (my age, being naive means "stupid"), but, as the late Dave
Carry put it, I "...believe in the creative power of tradition." I
consider Tony Pringle one of the most original and creative cornet
players, even if there are more accomplished musicians around! How
many contemporary musicians, besides Tony, are easily recognizable?
Only today I listened to some old Whiteman recordings, and they were
more driving than many black bands of the era. And with some
exceptional soloists!
Cheers
