What a Wonderful World, Ricky's book on Louis from 1947 onwards (ie The All Stars period) is one of the most engrossing books on jazz that I've read in a long time. Everyone should read it. There's no better portrait of Louis.

I've known most of them for years, of course (the first 78 record I ever bought was Cornet Chop Suey, in about 1954), but Riccardi has a way of shedding new light on the most familiar material, making you see it through his eyes (or rather hearing it through his ears). Great to see such enthusiasm in one so young!
