There you go again Marek. Trying to speak for "most people". And you
are wrong again. The only people that think New Orleans musician
indicates traditional are a few old folks who still live in the past
and do not know any better.
New Orleans music branched out from the "traditional" decades ago and
includes Funk, Zydeco, Rhythm and Blues, Rock & Roll, Hip Hop, Heavy
Metal, and Modern Jazz, to name just a few.
Some of the "modern" New Orleans Jazz, which you are aware of as an
informed fan is/was evidenced by the music of Ellis, Wynton,
Branford, Jason anad Delfaeyo Marsalis, Nicholas Payton, Terrance
Blanchard, Alvin Batiste et al. And, of course, Ornette Coleman who
spent a couple of years in New Orleans living with the Lastie family.
Perhaps that's where he learned to hear rhythm as melody in similar
fashion to Bechet, Armstrong Oliver and other New Orleans musicians.
But that's another discussion. <grin >
