To be serious, men (usually a lot older) are responsible for the chick 
singer thing.... something to do with "listening" with the wrong part of 
their anatomy! Roger Horton at 100 Oxford St, London  had to ban one 
well respected instrumentalist from bringing his latest "finds" to the 
club because they really didn't know how to sing!.

To try and answer the original question, which got sidelined.  There are 
singers  who are taught about things like intonation, dynamics, 
phrasing, interpretation etc. There are the naturals who just seem to do 
it all by listening and looking and then there are the wannabees; 
ranging from pretty young chicks to elderly roosters/cockerels who 
mangle the songs with strangled sounds.

The chicks come and go and there's a song (I'd love to get the exact 
title if anyone knows it) with the words .... But I'm Here .... time for 
this old hen to learn it.:-)
