[Dixielandjazz] OT-Bing Crosby, Frances Langford?

Frances Langford was billed in "Yankee Doodle Dandy" as "singer." Back then it was the YMCA that conducted the USO-type shows. I've also read, but I don't know where, that the "singer" was supposed to be Nora Bayes.

During the '40s she was the female vocalist (known back then as "girl singer") on the Bob Hope Show on radio. She was seen in the mid-'50s in "The Glenn Miller Story" singing "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" with the Modernaires.

> Frances Langford was a very popular singer in the late thirties and the forties. For example, in the biopic, Yankee Doodle Dandy, she was the WWI USO singer with George M Cohan singing "Over There" in an army camp. She did a lot of real USO tours with Bob Hope. Here is her page on Internet Movie Data Base: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0486387/
