As Andy Ling pointed out, audio files must be downloaded, fully or
partially, in order to begin playing.

If the music is strictly piano or keyboard, the musician can play the
music into a midi sequencing program or a scoring program and save it as
a .mid file. The last time I inquired, Al Levy was using Finale, but any
scoring program works. Midi files associated with websites begin playing
immediately, and can be set to play once or to repeat. The sound quality
is dependent upon the recipient computer's sound samples and speaker
setup, which will vary widely from computer to computer.

Band-In-A-Box users can disable Real Tracks and Real Drums, set up a
rhythm background, then mute the rhythm piano and play their
piano/keyboard part into the Melody track, then save as a midifile.

Some websites include a provision for clicking to turn off the music. On
others you have no choice but to listen.
