What happens depends, but ultimately I think for all browsers
you have to wait for the whole mp3 file to download before
a player opens and plays the music.

I'm guessing this is what Al is trying to avoid.

Some sites use what is called streaming. This will start
playing the audio when enough has been "buffered" and carry on
downloading in the background.

I've never set this up, so don't have first hand experience,
but this web site seems to give a pretty good tutorial of
one way of doing it

Hopefully that will help Al do what he wants. If not
