[Dixielandjazz] Where are the musical jobs?

Steve and Dan,

I wish that I had a pound (or $1.60 as you would say!) for every time that 
somebody at a festival or on tour has asked me what is my "proper" job. 
Ignorance of the "real" musical world is universal. Yes, like Steve I also 
had a profession outside music, but 30 years ago the urge to play full-time 
instead of as a "hobby" was too great a pull. It wasn't easy at first but I 
don't regret my choice. The kids are grown up and have fled/left the nest. 
We haven't starved and our house is paid for.

I am flyingf to Spain tomorrow for a week of playing in Calpe with a fine 
band - not mine - but a great bunch of guys. I bet I will get asked "what do 
you do for a living?" at least once.
