My favorite bands, High Sierra, Yerba Buena, Uptown Lowdown, and
Titanic, were all there. The audience interest in Billy Mata and the Texas
Tradition and Tom Rigney and Flambeau, both of whose styles lie somewhat
outside the bounds of strict trad jazz, was gratifying. Mata plays
authentic
western swing of the Bob Wills variety which I haven't heard in many
years.

Wasn't the High Sierra band great this year? I mean I've been a fan for
over 30 years now and yet this year, there was just something different and
they even sounded better than ever. Really enjoyed myself as always. This was
the 31st year and I have attended all but one when I was ill and it broke
my heart I couldn't go.

The crowd was a little smaller than usual, seems they are all getting
smaller as the years go by, but still it was such fun seeing old friends. I told
the Titanic "Thanks for getting old with me" when I realized how long I
have known each member of that group. Oh well, we're all getting old. I
attended my first festival in 1976, Sacramento.
