[Dixielandjazz] Turk

Interesting coincidence! I have been talking to friends a lot about
Turk lately. As most of you know, Turk played with Lu Waters, and
formed a revival band. looked for a place to play in SFO, and fixed up
Earthquake McGoons! By the time I started visiting SFO in the 60's (I
used to teach 4-day Software Engineering seminars all over) everyone
told me:
"Oh my gosh. If you're in SFO, you have to go to Earthquake McGoon's.
Of course, it became a regular stop. Ralph Sutton (from Pine,
Colorado) played intermission piano. It was wonderful!!!.

So, I've been contemplating what do do here (or someplace else.) I
could rent a place and put in music about 6 hours a day (we have 850,000
tourists coming here to Tombstone every year) But trying to put
together a trad jazz band here in Cochise County is impossible. Sierra
Vista has a pretty good swing band (Desert Swing) none of the Trumpet
players sound good enuf to play Dixie/Trad.

I had a wonderful band in Colorado Springs -- The Colorado Nighthawks --
but couldn't afford to pay them to get the thing off the ground. When
I sell my book, I will be a "rich Gringo" and I can open my own bar and
fill it with trad jazz!! Any suggestions for a name?

Rick
