Dear Ginny,
If you set the verse out in four lines it makes more sense.

"My heart's sad and I am all forlorn, my man's treating me mean.
I regret the day that I was born and that man of mine I ever seen.
My happiness, it never lasts a day.
My heart is breaking while I say":

For line 2 (above) on the original 1920s recordings by Bessie Smith, Victoria Spivey and Lizzie Miles they all sing "I ever seen" instead of "I've......".
