Dear John,
As you know, the clip is from that silly 1943 Red Skelton, Lucille
Ball film "Du Barry Was A Lady".
The Tommy Dorsey orch segment was recorded and filmed in Sept-Oct 1942.
My research indicates that the young trumpet player with Ziggy Elman
(recreating the original Elman - Chuck Peterson duet solo) is Jimmy
Zito.
The clarinetist is Heinie Beau, Don Lodice is on tenor and the two
pianists are Milt Raskin on the left and Joe Buskin on the right.
Raskin replaced Bushkin in the band in Jan 1942 and was on the
original 'Well, Git It!" March 1942 recording.
The photograph of the 1940s Dorsey band in the New Grove Dictionary of
Jazz supports the identification for Beau, Lodice and Bushkin.
Raskin's solo piano style is similar on both the original record and
the film.
Kind regards,
Bill.
