[Dixielandjazz] Lower-tier performers at Festivals and remuneration

Hello to All,



Recently a  CA friend of mine, well versed in music but also in music 
business, told me that  the rule for ''lower-tier'' performers ( a way to 
describe non-professional musicians, I assume) at  Festivals, is to be happy 
if they have the opportunity to play and forget to be remunerated.



Is this true ?



If it is so, should they also forget to be covered for their expenses ?
