Yes.

Also, musical jokes require the audience and the performers to be more 
knowledgeable than most of the younger ones now are. (Read: "bone ignorant 
about almost everything.") For instance, Schickele's stuff requires you to 
know and like all sorts of classical and popular music for proper 
appreciation, AND to understand how much skill is required to produce good 
comedy. Any halfway decent actor will tell you "drama is easy, comedy is 
HARD!"

As for Spike Jones himself, I think he was once heard to say that rock and 
roll IS a musicial joke.
