[Dixielandjazz] Private email vs DJML postings.

This is a private reminder ON the DJML members that care should be taken
when you receive a response from a DJML member. If it is intended as a
PRIVATE response to you only, or meant ALSO for posting on the DJML.
This can prevent embarrassing situations if someone says something in
private to you that ends up being posted on the DJML.

If your email from a DJML member does not indicate that it has also been
sent to the DJML, it should be considered as private correspondence and
should not be posted, even if the person has not specifically said that
in the subject or body of the email. All or in part, on the DJML without
permission is not considered to be appropriate.

I usually note in the email if it is a private message in the subject
line for that reason, having been "burned" in the past. I must have
forgotten recently as I found a private, lengthy, email (my usual kind
as verbose) posted on the DJML along with a response from the person I
sent it to. It was not intended to be posted on the DJML list.

Most of the email had NOTHING to do with jazz and everything to do with
private comments about my time in Germany many years ago now. It was
sent to someone who had been there around the same time. Some of what I
commented on may have been offensive to ex-military personnel. :-) It
was not intentional in any respect. A fact of life then.

Another one may be forthcoming if the poster did not get my admonishment
quick enough. Please ignore and delete if possible ASAP. :-)

Bob Ringwald occasionally requests that more use be made of private
correspondence between members rather then posting to the DJML. I have
attempted to do that with decidedly mixed results. If you feel insulted
if I "spell it out", don't.

It takes extra work to post it to the DJML from a private email. Think
before you send. Thanks.

Mad Dog (And REALLY mad now.)
