Folks--
Gotta tell you about a new CD by Matt Perrine called "Sunflower
City". He plays sousaphone in New Orleans, and this CD rocks, it
cooks, and Matt has some wonderful and amazing solos on it. The
tunes are kind of New Orleans jazz (duh), Cajun/funk sometimes,
ballads ("I May Be Wrong" reminds me of the Reynolds Brothers Rhythm
Rascals in its style). He's got great sidemen on the CD, such as
Connie Jones and Tim Laughlin, and this is no
weird-tunes-by-the-bass-player CD, this is a bunch of good music that
also has some excellent sousaphone-playing.
You can hear some cuts from it and buy it at
http://www.louisianamusicfactory.com/showoneprod.asp?ProductID=5349
and while you're at the Louisiana Music Factory you might bump into
some other good CDs you can buy there (i got a Louis Prima CD and
also one by Pud Brown).
Great stuff by one of the best jazz-tubists anywhere.
Dan
