[Dixielandjazz] The Band Scammers

Bands have been getting an emails like the one below. Even OKOM bands. The
usual scam is that they con you into giving your bank account information
and then they electronically transfer you money out of it.

Worse yet if you buy airline tickets etc., and can't get that money back.

The below note went to a band in California. I guess there are no bands in
NYC. <grin> 

Other forms of this scam have originated in Europe, targeting American bands
to play there for weddings, festivals etc. BEWARE. Especially if the writer
can't spell, and in this case, already married. <grin>

They get your email address from web sites, craig's list, wedding band
sites, etc., etc.., etc.

For any gig outside your local area, it is advisable to get the money well
in advance and the check cashed. And don't give your bank info to anyone. I
know of several bands that have fallen for this scam to their detriment.
