[Dixielandjazz] Bechet's main instrument

For the first eleven years of his career, Bechet played clarinet, then he
bought a soprano saxophone in London some time between 1919 and 1921. After
that he seems to have alternated between the clarinet and the soprano
saxophone up until his later years where it would seem he was requested to
play the saxophone more and more.

Since he learnt to play the clarinet at an early age (6 years old) under the
tuition of George Bacquet, "Big Eye" Louis Nelson, and Lorenzo Tio, I would
suggest that the clarinet was his main instrument.

Cheers

Bob Smith
