[Dixielandjazz] Bechet's main instrument

I was listening to a music quiz on BBC radio the other day and
one of the questions was "What was Bechet's main instrument?"

The contestant answered clarinet and he was told his answer
was correct.

Would you really consider clarinet to be Bechet's main instrument?
I certainly wouldn't have thought it was the one he was most
famous for. Any thoughts anyone?
