Golden rule just stated by Steve Hoog. And, he goes on to say:

>do NOT use a vocal mic, such as an SM58. The sound is a lot different as a
result, when the horn is 6" away or a foot away--not just the level of
amplification, but the actual timbre.  

Steve, I was in on that discussion when I said I use the SM58 sitting on one
point of a triangle with the trumpeter on another point, and my 'bone on the
3rd point.  Works fine for us, but then I use it as an ambience mic (unless
someone wants to get close for effect!).  In fact I like it particularly
because it has those different tones depending on how you approach the mic.

Anyway, it's probably the least likely mic to get pulled off the mic stand
when mounted in a small, crowded club & stuck in someone's purse!  :>  Just
doesn't look all that special, thank goodness.
