Gee, here is a great event by a leading catering house in Washington DC,
charging a $15 cover to get in. BUT THEY WANT THE BANDS TO PLAY FOR FREE.
Gee, where do I sign up? :-) VBG

Funnier yet, the invite was forwarded by members of the local OKOM Jazz
Society to all the bands on their list. Damn it, does anyone besides me
think that Free Music at events like this are one of the major problems with
the music business? Does any OKOM band leader who got this "invitation" need
to play that badly that they would even consider this kind of bullshit?

If so, come on to my farm in PA and we'll have The Maison Barbone Jazz
Festival. I'll provide food and drink, (water like the Frenchies below) to
all musicians.

Sad indeed.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone

Dear Friends of La Maison Française,

Mark your calendars for an evening of musical festivities! I am pleased to
announce our 2007 edition of the popular Fête de la Musique on Friday, June
22 from 5 p.m. to midnight at La Maison Française.

The French tradition has been to celebrate the summer solstice by gathering
in the streets to listen to amateur and professional performers. In order
to offer a similar musical experience, La Maison Française will open its
doors to more than 30 local bands who will create a lively musical
patchwork. Throughout the event, wander around the Embassy gardens and enjoy
a most eclectic program!

(Please note: if you are a musician and would like to perform at this event,
please scroll down for details).

Details of the event are as follows:
- >From 5 to 10 p.m., wander around the Embassy gardens and listen to
talented local musicians.
- >From 5 to 8 p.m., let kids participate in a special workshop to build
their own instruments and perform !
- >From 6 to 8 p.m., try your hand at Latin ballroom dances, during
workshops given by professional dancers; meet energetic people while
discovering new moves!
- From 9:30 to 11:30 p.m., a DJ will keep the festivities going.

Cash bars and vendors will provide barbecue, pastries, coffee, beer, wine,
and champagne throughout the event. Come and enjoy a terrace-style café by
our fountain.

This event is co-organized by the French-American Cultural Foundation.

Calling all (amateur) musicians and performers!

Are you an amateur or professional musician? Do you play the violin, the
guitar, or a tune on the bagpipes? Are you part of a jazz ensemble? Do you
have your own rock band? Do you sing in a choir? Are you a juggler? A mime?
A magician? A sword swallower? Do you have a talent that you and/or your
group would like to share during a unique event?

You are invited to perform at our Fete de la Musique on June 22nd between 5
p.m. and midnight in the gardens of La Maison Française!!!

How to participate?

All styles and genres of music are welcome (world music, jazz, classical).
These NON-PAID performances will run from 5 p.m. until 12 a.m. As a musician
your entry to the event will be free of charge!!

All musicians will be expected to bring their own instruments (except for
pianists!). Each musician or group will have at least one full hour to
set-up and perform.

In the true spirit of the French Fete de la Musique, and because of the
outdoor setting, your set will need to be an acoustic performance. (Some
exceptions may be made).

We will only provide you with a power source. (you will need to bring your
amp, mic and extension cord)

During the evening, bottles of water and food will be given for all
performers.

To sign in, please register via our website www.la-maison-francaise.org
