That's Event Planners :)) Usually have a big fat client with a big
budget that knows even less then the event planner about good or even
decent music and what it really costs, if the event planner spent
$20,000 on that band they should be tarred and feathered, :)) She
could have bought them for a month for the same money :)) more than
likely. And don't for get she more than likely marked up thier p-rice
by 30-40% FOR HERSELF TOO. :)) THAT'S HOW THEY WORK THE TWO OR THREE
GIGS A YEAR THEY GET BEFORE THE CLIENT FINDS OUT HOW THEY GOT SCREWED.
Unless of course that was the reason for them getting the gig in the
first place :)) It does happen. Might have been the CEo's Lady
friend for the weekend. :))

Cheers,

Tom

Sometimes it's just connections, or politics, or bragging rights.

Some years ago, my trombone pal Pete Pepke traveled down to Miami to
play
for a huge NFL super bowl party with a Dixieland group from Baltimore.
The
group played for 2 hours.

The band made good money, they flew down, were put up in a first class
hotel
etc., etc., etc. They were all journeymen musicians, not well known.
Probably cost about $20,000.

Pete's wife hit the nail on the head when she said: "Don't they have any
trombone players or bands in Miami?

The NFL just had a huge budget and the cachet of an "out of town band"
is
what they wanted. So the event planner, got an expensive out of town
band.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone
