Years ago i worked for the president of our AFM in his music store.

A new festival was starting. They called the prez to ask if he would waive "no gratis performances" in our by-laws to help the festival get off the ground. He reluctantly agreed. After the festival, the organizers through a big bash for the volunteers - - and hired a show band from Dallas (3 1/2 hours away). 

No more gratis performances for them.
