Steve, you appear to be a victim of your own erudition. You are so
over-stuffed with facts and associations dating back to Harlem in the 1940s
-- and evidently in possession of Charlie Barnet¹s lost charts -- that you
are able to connect the dots in ways that others find quirky. And you are
articulate and extraordinarily verbose, which makes your scorched-earth
verbal tsunami all the more insufferable to many.  Someone once said about
Freud: ³Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.² And sometimes Jazz is JAZZ,
regardless of how many mind-games Ellington or Condon or Basie or whoever
felt like playing that day in 1930 when some sycophantic pimp of the music
press was shoving a notebook into his face in front of a bevy of fans.
