If you're looking for jazz excitement on wheels, look no further. The
fresh and exciting Catsnjammer Jazz Band has been one of Sacramento's
most popular groups for the past 26 years.
Der Jammerband's big songbook for more than 300 tunes starts with New
Orleans and San Francisco style jazz, but the band keeps an eye on the
audience and tosses in the occasional contemporary tune to keep folks
interested. This band never forgets its responsibility to entertain an
audience.
The seven piece Catsnjammer Jazz Band was formed in 1980, immediately
becoming a hit with local jazz fans. it appears at many Sacramento
entertainment spots. It is featured each year at the Sacramento Jazz
Jubilee, and has recently been popular at festivals and jazz societies
up and down the West Coast and in Canada.
The Sacramento Jubilee recently chose the Catsnjammer Jazz Band to
represent the festival on ABC's "Good Morning America." Their new
album, "Live at the Sudwerk!" comes on the heels of three earlier
successful ones.
The Catsnjammer Jazz Band is comprised of leader Gene Berthelsen on
cornet, Bob Embry on clarinet, Brian Richardson on trombone, Chuck
Eastman on banjo, Jean Levinson on tuba, Ken Woods on piano and Joe
Runnels on drums. Brian, Chuck, and Gene all sing as well.
One month later, NVDJS will feature The Eldorado Syncopators on
Sunday, April 8th, 2007 from 1-5 PM at the same location.
