Bill: Your mention of the booklet you wrtoe and the mention of Peter
Sellers brought a little bit of memory about my dad. In 1951 Red did a
tour of Britain, playing the large string of theaters. At each week's
run at a new theater, they had the same acts on the bill, and one was
Peter Sellers. Sellers especially loved the Natural Seven's Cigareets,
Whusky, and Wild, Wild Wimmen. He told Red that it was a favorite in the
pubs at that time where the pub crowd would sing along with the record
while waving a pint of bitter.
Some years later, Sellers guested on the Muppet Show, and in one segment
he did that number with the Mupper puppets, and used Red intro ..."A
Preachment Dear Friends you're about to receive, on John Barleycorn,
Nicotine and the Temptations of Eve."
This always has been a neat business with so many links in every
direction of the music and show biz world.
Small world, indeed.
