Much of what Freberg talked about was before the spectacular advances in
movie graphics. For example, (and I think he may have used this example as
well as the 1000 lb cherry that Dave talked about).
Orsen Wells' radio broadcast of War of The Worlds and the "Martian Invasion"
(1939?) created a huge panic in the USA among folks who thought it real. Yet
when they made the movie, it was fairly benign. The graphics didn't impart
anywhere near the same emotions.
Imagine what Speilberg et al, could do with War of The Worlds Today.
Perhaps the same is true in music these days. Hasn't the visual image
overtaken the sound only presentation? Don't people go to see the show as
well as hear it these days?
