Dear Dave,
Thanks for the prompt reply
Somehow, you always manage to come up with unusual and intriguing stuff!
Stuff that has managed to pass me by in my more than 60 years of
mouldy-fygge jazz collecting.
It was a large download (10MB) but extremely interesting.
Although (to my ears) a bit contrived and 'over-the-top'.
I have had all Blanche Calloway's records for years, but knew nothing
about the entertainer Chris Calloway.
So I checked Cab's book [with Bryant Rollins] 'Of Minnie The Moocher &
Me'. (1976. Thomas Y Cowell Co.) looking for information.
Sure 'nuff, there is a whole end-chapter, with full page pic of her and
dad : 'Chris discovers "Cab"', written by her when she was about 30.
I had completely forgotten about it. Well worth the re-read in light of
your audio piece.
Thank you for the lead.
Kind regards,
Bill.
Now about to dig out and re-listen to another record I'd forgotten
about.
"Minnie the Moocher is Dead" (Jimmy Lunceford & the Dandridge Sisters).
