[Dixielandjazz] Notice for William "Bill" Gunter

Dearest DJML community,
    It doesn't seem possible that the absolutely ageless and timeless and
hysterically funny Bill Gunter -- one of the best all-around entertainers on
the trad jazz circuit -- and a wonderful human being to boot -- could have
departed without giving us a chance to say goodbye. I'm so glad that I went
and saw the Boondockers both nights at Sacramento this year -- at least I
have those memories as well as the YouTube clip - to remember him by.
    My condolences to his family -- Bev, his children and his DJML family --
heaven only knows how much we ALL loved him.  There's something to be said
for never having said an unkind word about anyone! Everyone has only kind
words in return...his humor was so universal that no one ever felt hurt by
it...and his larrikinist posts (I've learned a wonderful new word that
describes Bill perfectly! - thanks you Aussies!) will be missed by
everyone -- especially those of us who loved his washboard playing & antics.
    I only wish I'd gotten to know him as a friend - especially after
reading about what a wonderful friend he was to so many people -- I knew him
only as a fan who truly enjoyed his vaudevillian talents (he would have been
as big a star as Madonna if there was still a vaudeville circuit) and his
wonderful posts on the DJML -- always funny and sincerely defending those
washboards! He's one of the reasons that I went out and bought a washboard!
    Goodbye Bill! Thanks for the memories and all the good times! The
Boondockers, Cell Block 7, the trad jazz circuit, the DJML, heck Sacramento
itself won't be the same without you!
