Hello,
My family were mostly from Bergen County, NJ and a number of great jazz men
lived around there. There were a lot of parties with many of the Condon guys
there when I was a kid. My Dad was a good friend of George Brunis and I recall
hearing about his standing on Brunis' chest while he played the trombone. I
never could quite picture that. Must have been on a couch or something. Dad's
best friend was Lou McGarity, but he knew them all - Bud Freeman, PeeWee,
Wettling, Schroeder, Wild Bill, et al.

As I've noted earlier in these pages, the reception of what I air on
Cazenovia (NY) College's radio station (WITC 88.9 - range about 175 square miles) has
been extremely positive -from all ages including teen-agers - and a couple
more colleges may be in the works. The kids hate what the record companies try to
push on them. EVERBODY likes the real McCoy. For an example, songs on a
recent program aired:
There'll be some changes made -Bucky,Alden, Peplowski (sound track of "Sweet
and Lowdown"
Dinah - Django
Just one of those things - Johnny Russo/Doug Robinson
There'll be some changes made - Kenny, Bucky, Haggart, DiNicola, Varro, et al
You'd be so nice to come home to - Julie London
How Insensitive - Charlie Byrd/Peplowski (Bossa Nova)
That Rhythm man - Kenny, Bucky, Haggart et al
St. Louis Blues - Barrelhouse JB - Cologne Germany fest
When you're smiling -Maheu
DA Blues -McShann/Sutton
I found a new Baby- Hackett/Teagarden
Minor Drag - Condon
Exactly Like You - Kenny, Norvo, Mckenna, Hannah
Rain -Sutton, Hinton, Barnards
Was - Mose
Limehouse Blues - Grappelli/Bucky
At the jazz band ball - Bix
The Crave - Paul Asaro
Milenburg Joys - Kid Ory
The touch of your lips - Ben Webster/Dr. Peterson
It's a wonderful world - Zoot and AL
Ring Them bells -Hamp, Zoot, Teddy, Rich, DuVivier
Put 'em down blues - Eddie Polcer's All Stars

I hope this all isn't too lengthy, but I thought you might like a sample. I
send recorded programs to people around the country who are very interested in
this cause. It's not a big deal. It's what people like.

Best to you all who are supporting the great sounds of this country.

Sincerely,

Roger DeVore
Cazenovia,NY
