Dancers and listeners alike do not want to miss this! The STJS is very
pleased
to present another fine musician from New Orleans, trumpeter Duke Heitger.

To quote trombonist Dan Barrett, "I heard about Duke Heitger long before I
heard him in person. As high as the
praise was about his playing, hearing him in person still came as something
of a shock. He is one of the most exciting younger players I've
heard in a long time. His overall conception and sound owes a great deal to
Louis Armstrong when Louis was in his prime. Of today's players, Duke
probably
gets closest to Louis's sound and feeling."

Duke came to New Orleans in 1991 to join Jacques Gauthe's Creole Rice
Jazz Band and has since become one of the most sought after players on the
international scene, performing and recording around the world with a
diverse roster of
musicians.

Since arriving in New Orleans, Heitger has received international
exposure leading to work with bands led by such classic jazz stalwarts as
Dick Hyman, James
Dapogny, Butch Thompson, John Gill and Banu Gibson. He has made a number of
guest
appearances on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" with Butch
Thompson, and
has been featured numerous times on public radio broadcasts by the Jim
Cullum Jazz
Band's "Live at the Landing."

Heitger has performed at the Hollywood Bowl with Banu Gibson's
Jazz Band, at New York's 92nd Street Y, and with Butch Thompson at Orchestra
Hall in Minneapolis. He has toured Hungary, Switzerland, France, Norway and
Germany. He
led his Big Four on a European tour, stopping in Finland and Sweden.

Heitger maintains a busy schedule in New Orleans: leading his own Steamboat
Stompers
aboard the Natchez Paddlewheeler daily; a weekly appearance at the Palm
Court Jazz Cafe; plus a heavy dose of spot work.

Well known among jazz enthusiasts through his many recordings, Heitger also
made
his mark on popular music with the Squirrel Nut Zippers' million-selling
disc, Hot, earning him a platinum record.
