Hello all,
The website has been updated with some very exciting and interesting items.
Following up leads from genealogist Peter Hanley, I have managed to secure
a great number of WW1 draft registration cards. I cannot begin to tell you
the thrill I experienced handling and examining the original draft cards of
some associates mentioned by Jelly Roll and other notable ragtime pianists.
A new page has been created to display these rare documents --- and the
first of the complete cards --- in addition to those of Jelly Roll and J.
Lawrence Cook --- are :
Louis August La Mar (Lew La Mar). He features on Hyena Stomp and Billy
Goat Stomp.
Arthur Marshall, the famous ragtime composer and friend of Scott Joplin.
His date of birth may come as a surprise to some ragtime buffs.
Special thanks to Guy Hall, Henry Smith, Alex Adan and Millie Gaddini for
their help with securing these rare documents.
The first of a series of articles written by J. Lawrence Cook for the
International Musician magazine, dated December 1941. This article shows
J. Lawrence Cook in a completely different light as he displays his erudite
writing skills. Courtesy of Prof. Brian Dolan and Prof. Alan Wallace.
The above items can be accessed from the grey UPDATED BOX at:
