Future Man's instrument is a modified Arp  guitar synthesizer - he  
calls it a ""Synth-Axe Drumitar" - here are a few links:

A totally unique instrument -I have seen him play it several times  
and he really makes a show out of it!  Bela Fleck is MKOM, by the way...

For more traditional one-man-band/washboard performers, I like Prof.  
Gizmo (Rich Elmore) who has also played tuba and trombone in a  
variety of New Orleans and SF Bay Area bands. Lately I have seen him   
playing in a klezmer/balkan style band.
