Don't Advertise in Newspapers, send them press releases of successful gigs
you did in their area, or that are newsworthy. Example, I got coverage in 3
local newspapers because of my trip to the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Israel.
Plus a write up in November American Rag, New Jersey Jazz Society Newsletter
and other targeted publications. Follow the "press release" ideas on the I
Sound blog. Then your story and photos get printed as "news".
There are at least 10 articles on the I Sound web site that give you
suggestions for becoming visible.
When I first got serious about "coverage", I got full page articles + photos
of the band in 4 newspapers here, including the main Philadelphia one. FREE
Do direct mail to prospective clients. My main mailers are to Continuing
Care Retirement Homes, Selected Restaurants, Wedding Planners, Townships,
Cities, Boroughs and Counties (for summer concerts) and Selected Modern Jazz
Festivals.
That will keep you busy for a while, but it is easy with your computer and
mail merge programs. I just sent out 50 mailers this week so far. Will send
another 200 before the end of the week. Will get at least 10 high paying
gigs in 2007 because of them.
Will mail at least 500 by end of year. TOTAL cost? About $300. When you do
all of that, write me and I'll suggest other things you can do that fall
under the header of "low Cost" advertising/publicity.
Cheers,
