Hi Ginny:

The answer is: behind door number three:

Male groupies and slobbering and drooling Trombone players pushing and
shoving each other to carry their equipment :)) VBG

Also in some Jazz circles ( Dixie and other genres) less than gorgeous
female musicians are considered two levels below a drummer and nobody
is even paying attention to whether or not she can actually play :))
Our sport is dominated by Dirty Old Men.

Personally I would like to see more Female Bands and often encourage
ladies to join my own band, unfortunately so far none have done so,
must be some of the ugly guys in the band that they think they might
have to room with on the road :)) And when I bring along our singer I
have to carry a cattle Prod to keep the DIRTY OLD MEN AT ARMS LENGTH
FROM HER.

Or so I have heard :)) ROTFLOL

This discussion thread has been further enlightening to me as to
perhaps why
there continue to be more males than females in OKUM bands. Have you
noticed that the male/female performer ratio differs considerably in
these
areas of
Dixie and Swing music making compared to symphonies for example? Or
to
today's big media-mongering groups?

I see a difference in my thought processes compared to what many of you
 guys
have shared. I love it when my husband can and wants to go along on a
gig.
He is a non-musician who does enjoy the music. But whether he will
attend
or not is never part of my thinking in accepting or rejecting a gig.
And I
don't assume any labor or assistance on his part although again all
offers to
do so are great! But goodness gracious, I wonder how Mighty Aphrodite
manages? VBG
